Las Médulas is a Cultural Park with its numerous fossil components but which is also dynamic, a veritable resource of cultural and natural, informative and educational interest.

For the management, conservation and valorisation of Las Médulas the zone is considered as a Cultural Park. The Las Médulas Archaeological Information Centre (Aula Arqueológica de Las Médulas), the itineraries, informative pamphlets or publications such as the “Guía Arqueológica” published by the Junta de Castilla y León, are instruments that have as their essential objective explaining the historical process of the transformation of Las Médulas and helping the visitor in an overall reading of the various elements that make up this landscape.

The Archaeological Information Centre, at the entrance to Las Médulas village, is the ideal complement to a visit to the area. Here one can find all the information necessary for an understanding of Las Médulas: the cultural landscape is placed into its historical context through maps, models and graphic reconstructions and offers another type of information that is difficult to show on site, such as mining tools or their use in the various phases of the mining system. There is also the projection of a video on the Archaeological Zone.

The itineraries that one can follow currently are explained in the Archaeological Information Centre, with some routes marked out with information points on the site and which affect fundamentally the most striking visible structures: the gold mine, the two pre-Roman forts and one of the Roman settlements. Various panels explain the phases of the mining operation and the spatial and functional interpretation of the visible structures of the settlements that can be visited.
